Boating to Cabbage Key

Cabbage Key Florida- The former winter residence of famed mystery writer Mary Roberts Rinehart has been turned into an old inn, restaurant, and vacation destination. Whether for the day or for the week, Cabbage Key is a relaxing and beautiful place to visit.

Be sure to put your mark on the famous "dollar bar" There are rental cabins available with small kitchens included (always looking for a way to save a buck!) You can walk the nature trails around the island, climb the historical water tower for spectacular panoramic views or Pine Island Sound, or just relax and watch the boats come in and out of the little resort as visitors come for a "cheeseburger in paradise".

Charlotte Harbor is full of exciting wildlife- a birding and nature phototographer's paradise! These two dolphin were celebrating the beginning of Spring by mating on top of the water. It was a perfect opportunity to observe and take some great pictures. We shut off the boat engine as to not disturb them, and explained to the kids (all under 7yrs.) that the dolphins were "wrestling"! Great day on the water!

The watertower was built in the 1930's when Mary Roberts Rinehart established her winter home on the island.
