Our Adoption Story

I've read so many heartache stories about infertility and couples struggling to become a family. I watched a close family member suffer through dangerous  miscarriage after another. I cried for her, I cried with her. But, I had my son without any of those troubles. As a matter of fact, our first-born was a honeymoon baby! I cannot possibly comprehend what others go through in those situations.  God has since blessed them with a son, and then two more boys- twins!

I hadn't thought a whole lot about whether or not I would have more children. I didn't have an easy time with delivery, and ended up with an emergency C-section with #2. We were perfectly happy, yet somehow, still not quite complete.

When I heard about a family baby who was in trouble, my heart was burdened for him. As a matter of fact, I had been praying for him since I heard of his existence. Sadly, his birth mother was unable to get her life on track and he had been taken from a very bad situation and placed into state custody.

Something inside of me held a powerful love for this child that I had never seen. I cried for him. I prayed for him; and when the opportunity arose for a family member to step in, my husband agreed I should go and get him. It happened fast. Our second baby was still in his first year. There was no time to prepare, and suddenly we had an 8 month old.  We were a family of five!

I fell more in love with my boy #3 over the course of the first few weeks. We quickly became acclimated to having three sons - all 5 yrs. and younger!

Because of the circumstances of his birth, because of choices of which he had no control - there have been challanges. He is beautiful, and smart. He is sweet. He is working hard to learn how to make good decisions. There are challanges. But, when we stepped up to the plate, we knew there would be.

As a matter of fact, the more we learn about what he is faced with, the more we know that we were exactly the people God intended for him. He is our precious boy.

We pray for our children. We know that God has a plan for each of them. We know that no matter what special challanges in particular that he is faced with- he will not face them alone. We will stand behind him. Sometimes we will stand in front of him, and we will always, always be beside him.

God brings families together in many ways. I have long been a believer in adoption. Now, I have witnessed the miracle of it personally. I know without a doubt that God's hand is in it.
And I am so very thankful that it is!

We prayed for children... many, many children. We thought twelve would be a nice, round number. Fortunately, Heavenly Father knew better. Instead, we have been able to help others realize the importance of family an' enjoy the children they would have had us adopt. We, on the other hand, now realize that our combined children of birth an' children of adoption are the exact number that could benefit all of us. We are blessed beyond measure.

Awwww... what a wonderful story! You and your husband are blessings to those handsome little boys, just as much as they are (and will continue to be) for the two of you. What a gorgeous family, Kelli!
