5 days of (everyday) Exploring God's Creation - Day 3

(everyday) Exploring God’s Creation doesn’t mean climbing Mt Everest.  I’ve heard from plenty of women who say they just aren’t the “outdoorsy” type. I can understand this – and sometimes I am limited to what I can do physically – and I want to encourage you not to underestimate the value of a family walk.

One of my fondest memories as a child stems from time spent with my family – simply walking around the block after dinner.  I live and grew up in Florida – where it gets down right HOT in the summer time. During the hottest part of the day – we learn to head indoors. We get out of the sun and into the air conditioning – either that or we live in the water – but even then we have to have sun protection.

Taking morning or evening walks is the answer to that problem – and might be a perfect solution for those who consider themselves the “indoor” type.  During the quiet times of the day (early and late) it’s a perfect time for mom and dad to hold hands and connect and do some family bonding outside together.

Point things out along the way - taking the time to point out a birds nest in a tree, a frog in a pond, or a special cloud formation in the sky – opens up the opportunity for more dialogue with the family. It's a chance to do some everyday exploring in nature and give glory to God who created it.

It's an opportunity to share that with your children - and a way to help them see God in a different light - as a caring intelligent designer who carefully and intentionally ordered every detail in creation.

By taking time to explore the world He made - we are giving honor and glory to our Father in heaven-
even if it consists of simple family walks - it's the focus and the fellowship that matters most!

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.  Revelation 4:11

Kids in the Kitchen - Food On the Road - Link Up #7

What to do for food when you're on the road with kiddos?

It doesn't have to be unhealthy - or expensive - it can be tasty
It can even be an adventure!

You know the saying: "When in Rome. . . " well "When in Georgia - get ya' some uh them thar peanuts"

It even qualifies as a homeschool lesson :)

Eating local food when traveling is a great way to soak up the "culture" or even just widen
your horizons - people often think to order seafood when on the coast - be sure to find out
what the area you're visiting is known for when it comes to good vittles!

Packing plenty of veggies and fruits is important - we eat lots of raw baby carrots with
a bit of ranch dressing - bags of lettuce will travel pretty well too - and pop a potato in the
hotel microwave for a quick, hot and healthy meal on the go.

We also bring along a can of beans - a whole baked chicken - salsa and cheese to
roll up in tortillas for a yummy meal that most everyone will like!
I heated the beans in the microwave a bit - spread some on a tortilla
I pulled chicken off the bone ahead of time and stored it in a big baggie so it was
ready to go - I got tired of pulling it bit by bit off the bone - this solved my problem
Add chicken, cheese, salsa and lettuce if you have it
The kids ate them up!

Be sure to plan for an extra treat along the way. We enjoyed ice cream at
Indian Springs State Park in Georgia - it is a place I hope to return to!
There is a rich history and shady trees to sit under while you read about it
The springs are known for their healing properties since the days of the Creek Indians
who lived here before - I'll be writing about my wonderful experience there soon!

Grab  a button (from below or the code on my side bar)
and link up your favorite family recipes - we love to see kids in the pics but it isn't required
to encourage families to get in the kitchen together and come back to the family table!

We do hope you'll join us and please remember it's nice to visit at least a couple
of the other members of the Linky - we've had some wonderful recipes!
Enjoy! Thank you much for joining us - God bless

#31days of Exploring God's Creation - Day 15 - When Cats Attack

Thanks for stopping by for a look at our
#31days of Exploring God's Creation !

The #31days series is brought to you by
"The Nesting Place" and "My3boybarians"

I've added links to a chosen few I think you'll enjoy at the bottom of this post. I do hope
you'll visit them! You sure won't be sorry you did- they are fabulous-

Day #15 - When Cats Attack
Here's what happened. . .

When Adventurer Kim G. Jones, author of  "The Case of the Missing Mountain" was hiking
along the Mt. St. Helen Hummocks Trail - she was both startled and intrigued as she came
upon not one, but several TIGERS "devouring" their prey!

Being the brave explorer that she is, fearless, grace under pressure,  responsible to her
audience and the listeners of the "Mystery Rangers Radio Adventures" , Ranger Kim did
what any explorer with her experience, keen eye, and steady hand would do. . . .

Silently peeking through the grasses- she shot . . .

The most beautiful pictures of these little weed munchers!

At "The Nature Tour" - Ranger Kim, Explorer Extraordinaire, introduces you to the
remarkable creature known as the "Cinnabar Caterpillar" .

Learn more about this fascinating insect and the miraculous super power it possesses on
the site where Ranger Kim shares her excursions. You'll be entertained and amazed at
how such a tiny creature packs a powerful punch-

and the caterpillars are pretty cool too!  *snort*

It isn't necessary to journey to far away lands in order to enjoy
exploring the beauty of God's creation.
One only has to open their eyes and notice the marvels that abound in nature.

What interesting creatures are lurking in your neighborhood (or nearby parks)?
Have you examined the critters munching on weeds and flowers in your region?

You just might be surprised at what curious traits they exhibit!

If you want to Explore God's Creation with your family this week, check out
Ranger Kim's story here and  head outside to shoot your own beautiful pictures!

- then simply "google away"- if you have a problem identifying something- email me
and I'll do my best to help ya find out what you've discovered on your adventure!

We can all be Explorers!
I happen to think it makes the Creator happy when we take the time to investigate
the details of His masterpiece. Don't you?

Job 35: 11

"Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth,
and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven."

Thank you for visiting! Y'all come back now- ya hear?

As the Deer Panteth For the Water. . . . . . Day#14 in #31days of Exploring God's Creation

Day #14 in my
#31days of  Exploring God's Creation Series-
I'm bringing back an older post from an adventure a
little while back. It was such a lovely nature experience
I wanted to make sure it was included in the #31days -

(and we are off on a new adventure so I had to put it
together fast) I'll be back with brand new pictures from
 our brand new adventure tomorrow-
I've shared an article each day in October so,
please hang out and browse a little!
The #31days series was started by brilliant bloggers from -
"The Nesting Place" and "My3boybarians"

Psalm 42:1
"As the heart panteth after the water brooks,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God."

As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longs after you.
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

Our week this week started out with a pretty cool experience.

72 degrees cool - to be exact!
It was a great way to get out of the heat.

We visited "Kelly Park" at Rock Springs Ridge in Apopka
just outside of Orlando.
(Big brother is in Alaska on his big adventure- so I took the little guys on their own)

We met some of the resident turkeys- I love that the boys
get so excited about wildlife- like I do!

After a little picnic- it was time to try out our
$3 rental tubes that we picked up at the little place on the corner
of Rock Springs Rd. and Kelly Park Rd.
(It's a family owned spot where they also sell barbecue-)

These pictures aren't the best
they were taken with our handy underwater camera!

We headed off down the quaint boardwalk .
It took all of 4-5 minutes to walk it.
along the way we saw native flora, a big Golden Silk Spider
and enjoyed the shade
of the Oak trees with Spanish Moss dripping from them-

This is the area where I grew up-
near the Wekiva River & it always brings me back when
I see the landscape.

It never ceases to amaze and enchant me.

We arrived at the head of the springs and eased in to the
crisp cool water!

The water was so breathtakingly clear and reflected just
enough of the blue sky.

Even with a clear view I kept the boys close by.
Adventures are wonderful - but only if you pay close attention
and are sure to put your families safety first.

Every body of water in Florida is apt to attract alligators-
no matter what anyone tells you- it is just a fact of life in Florida.
I once had an outfitter tell me that there were no gators on the river because
the water was too cold for them at 72 degrees.
Bologna
If it's not too cold for people - it's not too cold for alligators!
The fact is - the parks rope off the designated swimming areas and
it is most likely that the savy alligators will
stay in areas where their fishing isn't disturbed by people.

Like I said- the view was clear and I paid attention.

We had a great time.
Fortunately, the boys are well trained and they know that if there
is any hope of seeing the wildlife- they have to be quiet and keep a close watch.

The above photo cracks me up because they are both looking
different directions- but they are definately looking.
We've trained them for "wildlife viewing" since they were toddlers
It's just "how we roll"
and as we rounded the next corner. . .

We made a new friend.

She had come down to the stream for a drink.

She seemed as curious about us as we were of her.
She calmly watched as we floated quietly by.
If the boys had been hollerin and splashing around- we never
would have shared this moment.
They have had some pretty awesome experiences because
they've learned to go quietly into the woods. . .
like  real explorers on safari - we make it an adventure!

Yes, he was looking the wrong way-
That's my boy!
He finally did turn around and get a good look at her.

Isn't she beautiful?

We love homeschool

*I highly recommend Kelly Park - that being said- I wouldn't ever go on a weekend.
As you can tell from the photos - we mostly had the place to ourselves on a weekday
when most people are at work or school! It was perfect.
The experience cost me all of $11 - we brought our own picnic- although, there are
concessions at the park as well - and a beautiful pavillion for parties!

Click here for directions and phone number and to check the map for location.

Clicking the pavillion picture below will take you to the parks web site:

And, by the way- my 5 and 6 year old pointed out more
bugs and spiders and various species of birds
than I could identify!
They told me all about what they eat and the various habitats they prefer.

They sketched in their "Nature Journals"
and did some writing and copy work.

Our big science project for the week came
in the form of a 3 inch scorpion
they named "Larry"
(Spongebob anyone?)
Larry now graces the corner
of my kitchen counter-top in his own little home.

They are learning all about him
and have surprised me with what they already knew
like that scorpions find their prey using vibrations from tiny little hairs
located on their legs.
There is a good web site here for anyone interested in
doing their own scorpion study.
(No, you don't have to actually have one as a pet)
We have Captain Daddy to thank for ours!
Thank you honey. No. Really.

I'm thankful for all of the above!
I'm excited about our family homeschool this year - I just know God
has good things in store for us.  I am praying over the boys and over our
school as we head out on our adventures seeking to learn more about His
creation .  We are His children, His family , He wants to bless it!

Are you praying for your family? If you have a special prayer request- just
let me know and I will join you in praying for them!
