soak plastic bottle in hot water- dump hot water out & then immediately submerge empty bottle in bowl of ice water- quickly place peeled, boiled egg on top of bottle rim- keep bottle in ice water & watch as a vacuum forms. As the air in the bottle cools, the molecules contract & shrink causing a vauum. It is easy to understand because you can actually see as the egg is pulled slowly down into the bottle!
