Whitewater Rafting - Canoe KY Outfitters

Rafting on Elkhorn Creek just outside of Frankfort, KY turned out to be a terrific recreational event for the whole family! Although our boys are too young to enjoy the class II & III rapids that are available on the creek , taking on the class I + section turned out to be just right.

With all the rains we've had in the area lately, the river was definitely "up" & running. Some of the rapids we encountered were most likely a II, but it was all very safe and a perfect way to introduce our brood to the sport my husband Mark & I love so much.

The folks at Canoe KY were extremely friendly & helpful. They offer lessons both group & private for kayaking, rent rafts & canoes, and help you plan your trip. They are also an outfitters providing clothing & equipment for river recreation. It is a family run business, so it felt as though they catered to families particularly well.

Before we were turned loose on the river, they sat us down and asked us some questions about our experience, made sure the kids had the proper fitting life jackets (which they provided) and then had us all watch an educational video on the subject of river rafting & kayaking.

They loaded us up on the short bus (entirely appropriate for our crew) & hauled our junk & our raft up the river for the trip. We didn't get started as early as we would have liked, so we opted for the shorter run of 6 miles instead of the longer 12 mile trip. There are several trips to choose from.

Check out their website: http://www.canoeky.com/ to pick a river trip that suits your particular group.

Most importantly, get out & enjoy some adventure in the great outdoors with your family!
