A look at our homeschool week

In my life this week…

Letter of the week "V" -   V is for Victory!
The boys played their first soccer games of the year on Saturday

In our homeschool this week…

V is for Venezuela (we love our recipe book from GeoMatters)
Get the recipe and see how we use cooking in our homeschool here.

     V is for Visitors and . . . . .
My sweet friend Hyacynth @Undercover Mother  and her family came to visit - I haven't even had a chance to load our photo's yet from our time together (my phone had very little charge at the time) but the Lighthouse pic has 2 of our boys playing together on the beach. Her boys are little darlings who filled our home with the sweetest giggles. We loved having them again this year and all have decided it must be an annual event!

The sea fog gave us the opportunity to discuss "vapor".

We read about Velocity, Vultures, George Washington's Victory, and words with 'v'

My favorite thing this week was…

A little time with my Valentine - was high on my list of favorites this week!

My hubby is a pro fishing guide and has been very busy. It was wonderful to have him be
able to hang with us at the beach. He enjoyed getting to know Hyacynth's husband as well.
It is so nice when time with friends and people we care about comes together in an easy
going, comfortable way. Relaxing and fun!

Speaking of fun . . . .
V is for Viatic
(of or pertaining to travel)

The boys and I went from the beach to the house, showered, threw a suitcase in the mamavan,
and hit the road for an Adventure with Marcy @Ben and me . We met their family in Miami and
then explored Shark Valley (V is for Valley). I did manage to get plenty of pics of this crew on my (finally charged) iphone.

 Vacation! Vivacious! Victory dance!

Reading learning exploring …

In the Everglades! V is for VERY exciting adVenturez!

Vibrios are ubiquitous and abundant in the aquatic environment
(it's also some kind of bacteria that can kill you)

The boys really enjoyed spending time with Ben and our day in the glades for the Shark Valley Tram Tour was a fantastic experience. We learned a lot and had fun doing it.

We are still off on our adventure. I hope you are having some adventure of your own and
slowing down enough to find joy in the little things along the way!

Our homeschool week - frigate birds

In my life this week…

"B" is for boating!
Blue skies, frigate Birds and Being in love-
I got to spend 2 different days out on the water with my family- they weren't full days but
even spending a few hours does me a world of good as did celebrating our anniversary.

(gotta love all the "hurry up mom" looks -
I couldn't see when I took the shot from the glare of the sun- but this is all I got)

In our homeschool this week…

We've been inspired by frogs this week. The boys have been busy exploring and  catching them - they love and adore them - so I figured - why fight it? I made homemade flash cards to learn the "og" blend -we read a frog book to go with it. Their hands on learning involved using the flash cards and catching the frogs.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

We love using nature as the backdrop of our studies. I can always find Bible verses to go along with our study. This week, along with our regular studies from Apologia and Geography Matters - we learned about frogs, manatee, and frigate birds.

Nature was our favorite homeschool resource this week!

My favorite thing this week was…

We got up close and personal with a Magnificent Frigate Bird  a.k.a. "Man 'O War" - these birds only come in to roost during mating season and in cases of really big storms. The one in the bottom left corner is a male. You can just make out the red on his throat. There are current studies going on as scientists are trying to learn more about how much these birds sleep. They sleep while in flight across the water. There are so many interesting facts about the frigate - I'll be putting together a full Unit Study soon.

I’m reading…

Bible - 7 Tools book (see my side bar) - ready to begin GMG's new study.

I’m cooking…

These were easy "steak roll ups" we shared on our Kids in the Kitchen link up this week.

I’m grateful for…

We celebrated our 12 year wedding anniversary - I'm so grateful for this man and for God's faithfulness.
You can read more about that story - here.

Freebies …
I will put together a full unit study on Frigate birds- in the mean time - you are welcome to use my picture above for your personal homeschool. There is a link provided with additional information on these incredible animals. They are one of the most interesting species of birds I've come across.

In my life this week…

My sweet friend Rebecca @MomsMustardSeeds  is visiting with her family & we've had fun fun and more fun - beach time - family time - boat time and fellowship galore!

We're cooking this week…

Roast and homemade bread - as featured on this weeks Kids in the Kitchen!

Favorite thing this week…

Watching the dolphins follow the wake and jump and play behind the boat and. . . .
sharing it with some of our favorite friends!

Our boys and the @MomsMustardSeeds kiddos got along so well and had a wonderful time of fellowship - we even met up for the day with local blogger friends @DazeofAdventure and  I'm proud of the overall behavior of our boys (hey, nothing is perfect) but there were no major "incidences" during a full week together - and I think that's something to be proud of
