The #31days of . . . series is the brainchild of
some of the webs best bloggers-
Nester of -"The Nesting Place"
Darcy of- "My3boybarians"
are two of the original eight who created it!
The idea is to dig a little deeper into a topic for your
readers- Thankfully, they've opened it up for others-
Day 10 - Lesson Plans. . . naturally
With regards to education, let's talk constructivism - The term is defined by
en.Wikipedia.org -as a theory of knowledge that argues that humans generate knowledge
and meaning from an interaction between their experiences and their ideas.
Basically - learners construct knowledge out of their experiences!
Makes good sense to me and is the teaching theology which I lean toward - naturally!
Many lesson plans-consisting of a variety of topics-can begin with a simple walk outside:
For example- on a walk in the outdoors you discuss how the muscles and ligaments work
It means more to a child and will grab their interest- you can introduce worksheets, books
dvd's or printable diagrams to them during circle time - be it indoors - or out!
If you want to go a different direction- you can look for birds on your walk. This page-
It's a wonderful jumping off point to then compare birds which come from an entirely
different environment. Compare and Contrast is a fun thing to do and can range from
extremely simple - such as color and size - to quite complex - eating and mating habits.
This can lead you to a whole world of information just waiting to be explored. What kinds
of birds live in the rain forests? (for example) Study of a particular country known for its
rain forests.
Briargrove Elementary Art Page
Awesome art inspiration and links to many more found on their page- just click the picture
above! Consider doing your own version -this is a classroom size piece- I think
I'd like to attempt maybe a smaller version with the boys.
Another option is to print off these beautiful digi-prints:
A trip to the local library will provide ample short stories for the beginning
reader and plenty of information for all ages to investigate at this point. Vocabulary and
spelling can come from age appropriate materials found there as well.
There's really no limit to where you can take your studies - beginning with a simple
walk outside! Imagine what you could do with a day at the park!
Get Outside and see where your lesson plans take you - naturally!
Job 35: 11
"Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth,
and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven."

...and it's never too early to get to know Christian bloggers who will be at blissdom ツ
...and about what you wrote, it also sounds like integration of studies, one dovetails to another and another and another and whole is greater than the sum of the parts. (I used to teach)
... and I know that not all moms can homeschool – but I know so many who do now – and I know this – homeschooling moms rock. The one who loves them best is the one who can teach them best – and nobody loves them like you.
God bless you and your students, and all of yours Kelli - and nice to meet you.(ˆ◡ˆ)
