#31days of Exploring God's Creation - Day 21 - Museums and Parks

#31days series brought to you by the "Nester"

Day #21 - Museums and Parks

Exploring God's Creation doesn't always mean that you have to be out in the wild.
You can have a wild time at your local parks and museums.
Take advantage of programs which allow family memberships like the A.S.T.C. program- here
your family can have access to hundreds of museums around the country for free!
(after joining your local museum)
We join our local - Charlotte County Historical Museum for just $35 each year and visit museums
all around the state and anywhere else we land. In the past couple of years we've been to museums
from Cincinnati to Louisville, KY - Atlanta, GA and all around Florida. We are located with some 12 different history and science museums within a 3 hour range. We plan family trips around the museums
and the kids love it! They have so much fun, they don't even realize how much they're learning.
It can be a great way to share creation with your family, and by doing it together you are not only making
wonderful memories, but you are there to guide your children through information that your family
may view differently. I think it's a fantastic way to teach my children to think for themselves and to
question "facts"  presented to them. If you are a creationist (like us) or if you are interested in learning
more about WHY we believe in the Creator instead of accepting the scientific information that has been widely accepted as fact- I highly recommend you read these books:

We also spend a great deal of time at local, state, and national parks whenever possible. You might be
surprised to find how many different places are available in your area. Have you been to the local visitors bureau? They pass out maps and brochures and even discount coupons for things to do in the area.

When we went to Atlanta for the homeschool convention this past July. We stopped in at the visitor center in Historic Roswell. My BFF  has lived there for several years, yet didn't know that this little place was just down the street. We gained some valuable historical insight (from the Civil War era), took a nice walk through the Historical district (which she did know about) and found this lovely covered bridge as directed by the nice lady volunteering in the center:

A bit further down the nature trail and we came upon this:

So, the kids got to do this:

And, mommy fell and busted her bottom- fortunately, I can't seem to find the photo my sweet
husband took. We usually pack a lunch, and start out with a general idea of where we are going
(like the visitor center). That day, it was hot, so the kids were all wearing bathing suits under their
clothes in hopes of a romp at the local spray ground. They decided this was MUCH better than the
spray ground!

Here are some links to help you find some places for an affordable family adventure in nature:

*Don't forget local parks for picnic's and playing ball - sketching trees, birds, and flowers can be
fun for families to do together outside!
*Check local park programs for free or inexpensive tours and nature walks.
*Visitor centers and Chamber of Commerce hold a heap of information and even discounts

Job 35: 11

"Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth,

So sorry to hear about your busted bottom :(

I am going to have to look into this for NJ. I love your photos!

Do you live near Charlotte, NC? We have been toying with moving there...my husband is on a big project now, but his company has a research facility in Charlotte, NC and there has been talk of opportunities there when the project is over...
