Loving My Little Men

Linking up with the MOB(Mothers Of Boys) Society to share with you our
progress, desires, inspirations, and needs in Growing Godly Men. Mother's of little boys everywhere
can benefit from each other as we open up and share:

My boys are growing incredibly fast.
It seems as though it was only yesterday as we were camping during the
holiday season (I believe it was right in between Thanksgiving and Christmas) that my
7, 4, and 3 year old beach boys climbed up on this log for a sunset picture.

At 10, 7, and about to turn 6 years - they are still my little beach boys, but my heart aches
knowing that it won't be long. It won't be long before they are asking for the car keys.
It won't be long before we are looking at college's. It won't be long at all before I am helping them
pack up their belongings to go out and make their mark in the world.

It seems like it was only yesterday that I was capturing images of their chubby little hands and feet
as they stared wide-eyed and amazed by the simplest of things.

Now, they are not such babies. They are little men. My little men
As I pondered these things and prayed over my boys earlier this week - I
felt the need to put some things in writing. (could be the writer in me??)
I wrote them each a love letter
Each one was similar, telling them that I will always love them no matter
their age, no matter how "big" they get - they are my babies.
Each was different, explaining in some detail specific traits that I admire.
I took the time to explain to each of them what I see God doing in their hearts and
how it is showing in their lives
Each responded according to their individual personality, which means
I got three distinctly different responses.
Each of them was just a little bit proud, chest swelled up with a
sheepish grin on his face and the tiniest bit of shy thrown in for good measure.
Walker said, "I know all that Mama" and added, "but I like it."
Parker, my pre-teen was a little extra easy going and helpful, he appreciated the sentiment.
Spencer, who has had much more hardship to handle than any little boy should,
opened  up and let me know how he really views our family and his secure roll in it.
(He is our adopted son and is only now getting to be old enough to understand what that means)
I'm so glad I took the time to write out my thoughts and feelings to each of them!

I always hug and kiss them and tell them how much I love them- their daddy does the same.
There was something special though about writing it all out and presenting it to them.
I'm glad I was the first woman to give them a love letter and I think it's definitely
something I will do again, and again, and again

I am SO not a perfect mother. I manage to mess things up on a regular basis
But, God's Word tells me that loving them earnestly, covers up a pile of mistakes and that
showing  love is the best thing I can do!

1 Peter 4:8
"Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins."

Have you taken a moment to do something out of the ordinary to show love to your children?

I'd love to hear your creative ideas! Our children desperately need our love
and encouragement- If you have a special way of showing love to your family,
whether it's a simple day to day kind of thing or a monumental undertaking-
please leave a note in the comments and share your ideas with other mothers who have
a desire to encourage their own children with extra TLC - Thank You!

What beautiful photos, beautiful family, and beautiful love for your boys! That is a great idea to write them letters. I am wanting to start taking our boys out on dates, on one one, taking turns with mommy and daddy, to spend more of that precious and fleeting time with them. Great post!

Love letters to your boys! I love it! I wish we lived closer...our kids are pretty much the same age and I just know we would all have a great time together! What a blessing you are to them....thank you for blessing me!

This was beautiful and very touching it. We work so hard to help them grow up but when they get there, it is so hard to let them go.

Brilliant idea of writing them their first love letters. They will always cherish them.

They are all such handsome guys!

I just love the family photo on the beach. Just beautiful. I love the idea of writing letters to each child-something I'll have to think long and hard about doing someday. There is something about boys-as tiring as they can be with their boundless energy, they are such loves!

I LOVE this idea! There are days when I think Kiddo must think I don't love him (or at least don't like him) because we just have bad days (this, of course, is NOT the case!), and writing him a love letter sounds just perfect. I love how you put that you were the first woman to write your boys love letters.

Great idea, I've thought about keeping a journal for each of my boys to log my thoughts, cute things they say, spiritual milestones...but its hard to stay disciplined. But what a treasure that could be for them when they are older and I am gone. I think it would be worth the effort to discipline myself to get to it.Thank you for sharing this post- it may be what I needed to get me going ;)
