31 days of Homeschool Encouragement - Our week - G is for . . .

I'm writing this month to encourage homeschool moms. So far - I've shared bible verses and encouragement for every day use, some of our struggles, and  favorite activities.

I hope you will find this a safe harbor - a place where you can gain inspiration as well as assurance that we all have challenges, and that God is faithful.
They say parenting is the hardest job you'll ever love - and for the homeschool mom who is with her children day in and day out - it rings true all that much more.

I'm sharing a peek into our homeschool week each Friday along with some of our favorite resources.

We are "Blogging through the Alphabet" with my friend Marcy @Ben and Me - I've used her idea for a weekly blog post to inspire our entire homeschool week. Last week - we studied F is for France. She is also hosting "Friday Fun School" - you might want to link up!

This week at out house . . . .

Letter of the week… "Gg"

"Gg" is for Germany - Which is the country we've been studying this week

Guten tag (goo ten tawk) - hello!

We stamped our passports and found Germany on the map. We continued our study of
Corrie Ten Boom as she was from the Netherlands - and was put in a German concentration camp.
We also read aloud from Guns for General Washington as suggested by
GeoMatters - Paths of Settlement.  We read from the atlas and from Craig Froman's book
Passport to the World - see more of our studies inspired by "Gg" below:

In our homeschool this week… lots of  Tactile learning going on!

We had the joy of sharing our homeschool with our friend Rowyn this week - we are thrilled she'll be joining us on a               regular basis to learn & explore  (if your china cabinet is full of books. . . you might be a homeschool mama)

In keeping with our "Gg" theme - we studied these particular animals along with a few more -
The kids searched through our books to find animals beginning with Gg - then they folded their paper
into 8 different rectangles - They drew pictures and made notes about each animal in a separate section

We still have this:
 food chain idea- LOVE!
and we are reading about Great Whales in our Swimming Creatures science curriculum from Apologia

Geko, goat               #homeschool preparation Animals beginning with Gg on the blog tomorrow
The World of Animals- Master Books                      Gorillas, guppies, gibbons, grouper

We are reading …

We stamp our pretend passports each week and "travel" to a new country. We read about it - take notes and discuss fun facts about the country and we cook special food from each location as well. We also use our maps to be sure the boys know how to locate the country we are "visiting". If you need maps - check out this giveaway from Map Trek- Knowledge Quest here -

We are cooking this week…

Our own version of "Brunswick Stew" which some say has it's origins in Germany -
It is also a popular dish in Georgia - our version is a lot like my Nannie's Chicken Vegetable Soup - Friday we are gathering with friends again at our house to make some Stroganoff and Apple Strudel -
 Yummy German food!

Quick tip . . .

We share recipes each week in a link up beginning each Tuesday called Kids in the Kitchen
I also share tips and tricks for cooking with your kids - Please join us - link up your own favorites and spend some time cooking with the family this week.

Cooking with your kids is a simple way to enrich your homeschool and grow the communication in your family. It's amazing what time in the kitchen - spent chopping, measuring, talking and listening can do for relationships. It is the "heart of the home" after all!

Freebies of the week …

Thank you for visiting  - I'll be posting daily doses of homeschool encouragement - with some detailed information about how we manage our homeschool - and struggles - daily throughout October.

Please let me know if you find these reminders and information useful or if there is something else you are looking for. I am happy to share what God has led us through (some pretty big challenges) and how He continues to carry us through each day.
