Each week I join forces with my good friend Carrie @YoungLivingOilLady
to bring you this Kids in the Kitchen family recipe link up - We are all about encouraging
families to cook and eat together. Real food, verses the fake processed stuff is always best.
We believe that food is healthier and families happier when they get in the habit of spending time in the kitchen together.
We use Cooking 101 as part of our family homeschool - teaching life skills and healthy habits
to last a lifetime. The kids plan a food budget, meals, study nutrition and much more.
This week at our house:
Cover dry beans in a pot full of water - pull out any foreign objects or floaters and
discard. Cover beans and bring to a rolling boil for 2-5 minutes - then turn stove off and
leave them to sit and soak.
Drain beans in colander and rinse with cold water. Put beans back in pot and cover with water. Bring back to a boil. Keep pot stirred regularly add TBS of coconut oil and sea salt to taste. Don't let them get dried out - plenty of water and slow cook from 4 - 6 hours or until beans are soft and yummy.
We served our beans with homemade mac-n-cheese and okra rolled in corn meal
and fried in coconut oil for a tasty - southern style - frugal meal.
