Kids in the Kitchen - Link Up #25 - Skillet burgers and oven fries

Carrie @YoungLivingOilLady and I have joined together to bring you this Kids in the Kitchen Link Up
We know that cooking real food at home is healthier and the act of spending time in the kitchen preparing
and enjoying meals together is good for the family.

When children help in the preparation of  family meals - it gives them a sense of pride, a sense of belonging. They can play an important role in helping to feed the family. Even small jobs like washing and slicing potato's can bring big smiles from your little people. Teamwork creates bonding between siblings.

We slice our potato's in long thin strips - letting the boys use table knives carefully - and place them on a tray with drizzled olive oil to cook in an oven at 450 degrees until browned and edges are crispy.

We served our yummy potato's this week with skillet burgers. We chopped onions, added an egg, and favorite seasonings (picked out by the boys) to our hamburger meat. It gives our oldest a chance to practice chopping onion with sharper knives and our 7 year old learned to crack an egg. There are many skills to be honed while spending time in the kitchen!

When the grill isn't convenient - we cook our patties in the cast iron skillet - we sear the outside to keep the juices in - then turn the heat down until they have cooked through. We served with a side of green beans.

What are you cooking this week?
